Temporary Handyperson (2-Month Contract)

Introduction We are seeking a reliable, motivated, and customer-focused Handyperson to join our Facilities team on a temporary two-month contract. The successful candidate will provide general maintenance support across student accommodation facilities, ensuring buildings remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.

This role requires an individual with strong technical maintenance skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate and carry out minor and preventative maintenance tasks Perform general repairs to buildings, fixtures, fittings and furniture Inspect and report maintenance issues Maintain accurate maintenance records Ensure tools and equipment are used and stored safely Monitor inventory and stock levels of maintenance supplies Promote and maintain health and safety standards within the facilities Provide maintenance support across multiple facilities as required

The successful candidate must be medically fit and able to:

Walk long distances Climb stairs and ladders Work in confined spaces Work at heights Perform physically demanding maintenance tasks

 

Desired Experience & Qualification Experience &  Qualifications

Grade 10 qualification Minimum of 5 years' relevant technical and building maintenance experience Practical experience in: Carpentry Basic electrical repairs Plumbing Lock repairs and replacements Furniture repairs and maintenance Good planning, organisational and reporting skills Strong attention to detail Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Good verbal and written communication skills Basic computer literacy (MS Office) Basic numeracy skills Ability to remain calm and respond effectively during emergencies Ability to work in a physically demanding environment Flexibility to work overtime and according to operational requirements when necessary Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993)
