Solutions Architect -1-year contract

Introduction  

We run a platform that sits at the centre of our business, operating at scale in a regulated financial-services domain. It has been built largely in-house and it moves fast. What it now needs is a single person who owns its technical coherence end to end: how the pieces fit together, how it integrates with the systems around it, and how it migrates off its legacy estate without losing data integrity.

 

This is a hands-on role. You will design and build on the critical path not architect from a distance. You’ll work alongside our lead developer as a peer, holding design authority over cross-cutting technical decisions while the build team executes. You’ll also act as the independent technical check on work delivered by external contractors.

 

This is the person who brings architectural order to a platform that has grown quickly. If you like greenfield-only work, this isn’t it; if you like imposing structure on a real, live, valuable system, it is.

Duties & Responsibilities  

End-to-end technical coherence of the platform — the data model, service boundaries, and how the various interacting domain modules fit into one coherent whole. Migration architecture — ownership of the consolidation from two legacy systems (running on differing, heterogeneous technology stacks) onto the modern platform. Includes the source-of-truth ownership matrix, source-to-target mapping, and ETL design for a large-scale (100M+ record) migration. Integration contracts — you own the platform’s side of every external API contract, including the boundary with an adjacent internal system that integrates via API. You define versioning, schema ownership, and breaking-change discipline. (You own the contract on our side — you will not be maintaining the adjacent system’s codebase.) Application analytics architecture — the reporting and analytics built on the platform’s master data, including the operational dashboard. (Infrastructure and server monitoring sits outside this role.) Contractor design review — independent review and sign-off of technical designs produced by external contractors before they are built. Durable architecture documentation — the architecture must live in maintained artefacts, not in any one person’s head. A core deliverable, not an afterthought.

 

Architecture & Technology Landscape

Backend: Java / Spring Boot 

Frontend: Next.js (React) — server-side rendering, app router 

Database: PostgreSQL 

Hosting: Ubuntu Linux 24+ 

Migration sources: heterogeneous legacy databases (e.g. MySQL and SQL Server) consolidating into PostgreSQL — migration-exit knowledge, not ongoing maintenance

 

 

Desired Experience & Qualification  

Essential 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.

  

Preferred 

Postgraduate qualification in a technical or business discipline.  .Relevant professional certifications
