Introduction PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Ensure that a SHE Management System is Implemented and maintained at different business units. Ensure an incident management process is implemented and sustained. Conduct Internal Audits on the SHE Management System. Conduct Ad hock SHE inspections on the SHE Management System. Coordinate the SHE Risk Assessment Process. Document, Implement and Review SHE Procedures on the SHE Management System. Identify SHE Training needs and advise the different business units. Coordinate the Denel Aerospace SHE Committee Meetings. Advise in the departmental SHE Committee meetings. Coordinate SHE Projects in accordance with the needs of the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities Operational Excellence:
Ensure that the SHE Management System is aligned with company processes and changes thereto. Participate in the planning, coordination and execution of Denel Aerospace SHE Committee meetings. Provide support and guidance to departmental SHE Committee meetings. Ensure that an effective incident management process is implemented and sustained, including the implementation and maintenance of an Incident Reporting and Investigation Programme. Conduct internal audits of the SHE Management System to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement. Benchmark SHE and COIDA compliance practices with other TVET colleges to identify best practices and improvement opportunities. Conduct OHS compliance visits to on-the-job training facilities and hosting companies where Denel Technical Academy (DTA) students are placed, to assess compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable requirements. Assist DTA departments in aligning their SHE practices and processes with Denel Aerospace SHE requirements. Conduct ad hoc SHE inspections to verify the implementation and effectiveness of the SHE Management System. Identify and coordinate SHE training needs and provide guidance to the relevant DTA departments. Coordinate and implement SHE projects in accordance with organisational needs and identified risks. Ensure that SHE risk assessments are planned, conducted, documented, communicated and reviewed as required. Ensure that management action plans are developed, implemented, monitored and closed out. Develop, document, implement and review SHE procedures within the SHE Management System in accordance with legal requirements, other applicable requirements and changes to organisational processes. Ensure that contractors working on site comply with the SHE Management System, applicable legal requirements and Denel Aerospace SHE requirements.
Process Improvement:
Ensure improvement into Sustainability management (energy saving and carbon footprint). Develop and implement a new process improvement initiative. Improve on current risk assessments reports. Improve the current management of contractors on site.
Transformation & Human Capital Management:
Participate in the performance management process. Participate in staff meetings as and when required to discuss operational performance and business issues. Live the Denel Values and demonstrates behaviour that is consistent with the culture of Denel.
Desired Experience & Qualification
National Diploma/Degree in Environmental Health, Safety Management or relevant field. 2-3 years’ SHE experience, including legal compliance, auditing, inspections, incident investigation, hazard identification and risk assessment. 2 years’ experience in SHE Management System implementation, preferably ISO 45001/ISO 14001.
Ideal
ISO 45001/ISO 14001 Implementation and/or Auditor certification. SAMTRAC/SHEMTRAC or equivalent SHE qualification. Relevant certificates in incident investigation, risk management and training. Knowledge of SHE legislation, ISO systems, environmental requirements and report writing.
