Introduction The Senior Software Developer forms part of the Information Technology team, reporting to the Head of IT. The core objective is to lead and contribute to the software development practice as the organisation re-envisions and builds its custom application environment. Approximately 95% of systems are developed in-house. The current environment includes a mix of legacy (COBOL, Visual Basic) and modern technologies. The focus is on the redevelopment of core operational systems using the modern Microsoft development stack, migrating away from legacy applications, and delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that support public transport operations.
Key Objectives, Skills & Experience Required KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE
Lead the software development practice by:
Leading the architecture and design of new applications Mentoring other developers in best-practice standards and techniques Assisting the growth and development of the software development team Leading by example through hands-on coding and software development Hands-on coding of applications and systems to a high standard Design and architecture at platform, application and database level Design and implement appropriate software development frameworks and methodologies Work closely with the Head of IT on application design, overall architecture and user experience Mentor team members in best-practice coding standards and development techniques Contribute to the growth and capability of the software development team
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
At least 10 years’ experience in software development using Microsoft technologies (.Net, ASP.Net, C#, MS SQL) Strong experience with modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as Angular or React) Proven experience in application and database design and architecture Significant experience building new applications from business requirements (whiteboard to production) Solid experience with MS Azure and related services is advantageous Experience leading and mentoring a software development team Experience setting up and managing code repositories, testing and release management Ability to analyse and extract business rules from existing / legacy systems Working knowledge of computer networks and server environments Advantageous: experience with COBOL, Visual Basic, MySQL, Unix or SAP ABAP Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred; Microsoft certifications advantageous Minimum 10 years software development / coding experience; prior team lead experience highly valued
