Overview Purpose of the Role
Responsible for the independent validation of credit risk models within a South African regulated banking environment, ensuring models are fit-for-purpose, compliant with governance standards, and perform as intended.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, execute, and document inception and periodic model validations across model families, with an initial focus on: Application scorecards Behavioural scorecards IFRS 9 ECL models and components Affordability models Pricing models Conduct validation testing, including: Data quality and representativeness assessments Model code and output replication Performance and stability testing Benchmarking and challenger model development Assess model conceptual soundness, methodology, calibration, performance, stability, and suitability for intended use. Produce Model Validation Reports in line with the Model Risk Validation Standard. Provide independent challenge and clearly communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Experience & Skills
5+ years' experience in model validation, model risk management, or credit risk modelling within a banking environment. Strong expertise in credit risk models, particularly scorecards and IFRS 9 models. Experience with statistical analysis, model performance testing, benchmarking, and challenger modelling. Proficiency in SAS, SQL, Python, R, or similar analytical tools. Strong report writing, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
