Introduction Our Client is looking for a Senior Operations Engineer to join the core Retail Sales Services product team within their global IT Hub.

Retail Sales Services serves as the central platform utilized by dealerships, agents, and national sales companies to configure vehicles, manage offers and contracts, generate sales documentation, search stock, and handle vehicle handovers across all brands and sales models.

In this role, you will take operational ownership of high-availability Java enterprise applications, utilizing advanced observability platforms to monitor system health, perform deep root-cause analysis, and execute code-level fixes.

This position is tailor-made for a Senior Application Support Engineer or Operations Specialist who combines strong operational ITIL discipline with deep Java code-level debugging capabilities. It is an ideal fit for an engineer who thrives on unearthing root causes in complex retail platforms, tracing transactions through REST APIs and microservices using modern observability stacks like Grafana and Loki.

You are a completely independent worker who handles vague requirements smoothly, conducting deep investigations to turn ambiguous issues into clear technical fixes.

You bring exceptional communication skills, enabling you to exercise persuasive influence across dealership users, business partners, and Level 3 engineering squads.

Java Application Support & 3rd Level Debugging: 8 to 10+ years of dedicated enterprise application support experience with deep proficiency in Java application architectures, JVM monitoring, log analysis, stack trace interpretation, and code debugging/fixes. Observability & Transaction Tracing: Operational mastery using Grafana for health dashboards and Loki for log querying, exception handling, and transaction tracing across distributed microservices. APIs & Integration Diagnostics: Proven ability to troubleshoot REST APIs, validate JSON payloads, analyze message processing failures, and manage reconciliation and retry mechanisms.

Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities:

Application Health & Monitoring: Monitor application health and service performance using Grafana and Loki; track SLAs and perform detailed transaction tracing. Incident & Problem Resolution: Investigate and resolve production incidents, perform log analysis, troubleshoot front-end, back-end, and integration failures, and document initial RCA findings. 3rd Level Support & Code Fixes: Perform code debugging and implement code fixes for application issues, bridging 2nd and 3rd level support while coordinating with Level 3 for development and infrastructure activities. User & Business Support: Support dealership and business users with issues relating to vehicle configuration, offer generation, and contract validation. Operational Excellence & SOPs: Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and system documentation; apply strong operations knowledge to reduce recurring incidents. Release & Change Management: Support releases, deployments, and production changes in line with ITIL Change Management procedures.

Desired Experience & Qualification Qualifications & Experience:

IT Degree or Diploma (or equivalent professional working experience). Minimum of 8 to 10+ years of dedicated application support experience in high-availability enterprise environments. Proven track record supporting Java applications, production integration pipelines, SQL databases, and monitoring platforms (Grafana/Loki). ITIL Foundation or related IT Service Management certifications are highly advantageous. Domain experience in automotive retail, dealer management systems (DMS), or financial services/leasing is advantageous.

Essential Skills & Technologies:

Application Support & Code-Level Diagnostics:

Deep Java enterprise application support: JVM monitoring, log analysis, exception handling, and stack trace interpretation. 3rd Level Support capabilities: ability to perform code debugging, implement code fixes, and execute root-cause analysis (RCA). Incident investigation and end-to-end production issue resolution. Behavioral competencies: Analytical troubleshooting, customer support, structured communication, service ownership, and cross-functional collaboration.

APIs, Integration & Databases:

REST API troubleshooting, JSON payload analysis, and web service diagnostics. Integration monitoring, message processing, reconciliation, and retry management. SQL querying and database validation.

Monitoring, Infrastructure & ITIL Governance:

Grafana dashboard monitoring, Loki log querying, service health tracking, and transaction tracing. IT Service Management: Incident, Problem, Change, Major Incident, and Escalation Management following ITIL principles. Fundamental networking (DNS, HTTPS, Firewalls, Load Balancers) and authentication technologies (SSO, LDAP, Active Directory).

Advantageous Skills:

Automotive & Business Knowledge: Familiarity with vehicle sales processes, pricing/offer workflows, contract generation, finance/leasing awareness, and dealership operations. Development & Technical Understanding: Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, CI/CD pipelines, and Java application architecture. Advanced Support Capabilities: Advanced SQL analysis, middleware administration, API Gateways, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), Kubernetes awareness, and automation scripting. Governance & Quality: ITIL v4 Foundation Certification, KPI reporting, risk, and audit awareness.
