Introduction We are seeking a highly structured and detail-oriented Fiduciary Trust Officer to take full ownership of the financial reporting, statutory compliance, and comprehensive administration of a portfolio of trusts managed as distinct, separate legal entities.
This role goes far beyond standard retroactive bookkeeping. You will act as a core governance advisor, interacting directly with the Board of Trustees to ensure pristine corporate governance, strict legal separation of assets, and absolute regulatory compliance. You will play a critical role in ensuring the trust structures are administered robustly to mitigate any "alter ego" risks.
Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities
Entity Financial Management: Prepare independent Annual Financial Statements (AFS), manage asset ledgers, balance sheets, and execute separate trial balances for each trust structure. Trustee Advisory & Interaction: Serve as the primary operational point of contact for the Board of Trustees. Coordinate meetings, compile board packs, take minutes, and draft precise, legally sound trustee resolutions. Statutory & Tax Compliance: Oversee complete trust compliance, including maintaining up-to-date statutory registers (such as the mandatory Beneficial Ownership registers) and managing specialized SARS trust tax filings (ITR12T and IT3(t) electronic reporting). Fiduciary Risk Mitigation: Ensure all trust operations strictly adhere to their respective trust deeds and relevant South African legislation to protect the structures from legal challenges
Desired Experience & Qualification Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
Education: BCom Accounting degree with a distinct sub-major, focus, or modules in Corporate Governance, Commercial Law, or BCom Law with Accounting as a major. Experience: 4 to 7 years of dedicated experience in complex trust accounting and fiduciary services, or corporate governance administration with corporate accounting.
Technical Knowledge: Strong, up-to-date working knowledge of South African trust legislation, King IV governance principles, and SARS beneficial ownership requirements. Professional Affiliations (Advantageous): Active membership or candidate status with FISA (Fiduciary Institute of South Africa) or CGISA (Chartered Governance Institute of Southern Africa) is highly desirable.
