QUALIFIED MECHANICAL FITTER Project-Based Contract | Carletonville, Gauteng

Introduction We are looking for a Qualified Mechanical Fitter to join a project-based operation in Carletonville. This opportunity is best suited to a hands-on, trade-tested Fitter with strong hydraulic fault-finding experience, particularly on mobile and trackless equipment.

Due to the project-based nature of the position and the required start date, we will only consider candidates who are not currently permanently employed and who are available to start as soon as possible.

This is a project-based contract and employment will end when the project is completed. Candidates must currently be unemployed and available for a contract opportunity. Candidates should preferably reside in the West Rand area and must be comfortable travelling to and working in Carletonville. The position offers a basic salary only, with no additional company benefits. A Red Seal Fitter Trade Qualification is non-negotiable.

 

We are specifically looking for Fitters who have diagnosed and traced hydraulic faults in practice. Experience limited mainly to the installation or assembly of hydraulic systems will not be sufficient.  You should be comfortable identifying hydraulic components, understanding how they function and working through a hydraulic circuit to determine the cause of a fault.  

Duties & Responsibilities The successful candidate will be involved in:

Hydraulic and mechanical fault-finding on machinery and equipment Diagnosing machine breakdowns and identifying the root cause of faults Removing and replacing major mechanical and hydraulic components Replacing hydraulic valves, cylinders, hoses, fittings and seals Carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance Attending to equipment breakdowns Conducting routine inspections on machinery Greasing, lubrication and topping up oils where required Checking equipment condition and identifying potential maintenance concerns Assisting with the control of frequently used spares and maintenance items Ensuring maintenance work is completed safely and to the required standard  

Desired Experience & Qualification

Red Seal Fitter Trade Qualification – essential Proven hydraulic fault-finding and diagnostic experience Experience working on excavators, skid steers and/or forklifts Trackless equipment experience Valid Code 8 driver’s licence Own reliable transport Good practical understanding of tools and technical equipment Ability to work independently with limited supervision Able to work under pressure and in challenging working conditions Willingness to work overtime when required Good communication and teamwork skills Safety-conscious, dependable and hands-on

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You are a practical Fitter who is comfortable getting involved in breakdowns and working through a hydraulic problem to establish what has actually failed and why. You should be able to explain the hydraulic equipment you have worked on, the faults you have diagnosed and the steps you followed to identify and resolve the problem.
