Project Manager - Richards Bay (RBM) - Fixed-Term Contract

Introduction Our client is seeking a results-driven Project Manager with proven experience in mechanical and electrical construction projects within mining, industrial, engineering, or fire protection environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible responsible to manage, monitor and control projects in an electrical, mechanical and construction environment to ensure successful completion within time, budget and quality parameters.

 

Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (contract duration will be determined by the completion of the project).

Duties & Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Planning:

Draft project charter (including communication plan) and ensure approval. Draft project schedule and ensure approval. Obtain contractual and legal deliverables. Prepare Quality Management Plan and ensure approval. Plan and allocate resources according to schedule and negotiate with internal stakeholders. Plan and initiate Site set up and mobilisation. Prepare risk register. Arrange and conduct project kick-off meeting (internal/external). Coordinate engineering deliverables with internal stakeholders. Initiate and ensure production of the project Operating and Maintenance Manuals are accurate and complete. Initiate preparation of Safety Files. Ensure correct BOM Procurement. Coordinate manufacturing of material and ensure transport to Site. Plan and coordinate training deliverables. Monitor and Control Ensure delivery of Project Milestones per schedule. Compile a standard 'Photo' Log to support 'Delay & Disruption' commercial activity. Review progress on completion of Operating and Maintenance Manuals. Monitor scope creep and track changes. Update detailed Project schedule with progress timeously (Weekly). Review Engineering deliverables progress against DCI (Deliverable Control Index). Monitor and control day to day efficiencies, issues, constraints, priorities and mitigate. Ensure project deliverables are completed in accordance with Project Quality Plan. Receive and review all Subcontractor Reports in the agreed format and timetable. Receive and review all Attendance / Workface reports. Monitor customer schedule, ensure internal compliance and escalate deviations. Address late project delivery by means of a recovery plan. Monitor status of latest Subcontract Plan and align with Project Plan. Review and approve time sheet completion. Review the status of the procurement plan. Communication and Stakeholder Management Build and maintain relationships with clients (internal/External). Ensure frequent communication and interaction with client. Conduct meetings with relevant stakeholders as and when required. Attend site specific meetings as and when required. Ensure that client expectations and perceptions are managed. Guide and recommend clients on best practices. Follow up on signed invoices and POD’s and ensure GRV/SES. Communicate risks and early warnings (access risks, schedule delays, material delivery, performance concerns etc.) to the relevant stakeholders as soon as identified. Communicate mitigation plan for any risks identified to the client as soon as possible. Support the sales department with the tender/quote requirements as and when required (advise on resource delivery and technical solutions)

 

Cost and Risk Management

Action all Customer Scope Change matters as per the project 'Change Order' process. Submit customer invoices, applications for payment in alignment with Payment Plan. Receive, validate and approve all Subcontractor invoices and applications for payment. Actively utilise the standard 'Delay and Disruption' Log for commercial benefit. Review any GM Deviation issues and mitigate (Not applicable yet). Review any Customer Payment issues and mitigate. Review any Customer 'Change Order' issues and implement. Review any Subcontractor Invoice / Payment issues and mitigate. Implement actions determined in project financial review meetings. Conduct project financial reviews and implement Risk and Opportunities and follow up on action plan.

 

Reporting

Compile and submit status reports and drawing registers to PMO on a regular basis. Submit updated project schedule with progress reports as and when required. Compile and submit monthly invoice and cashflow forecast. Compile and submit internal and external project reports to the agreed format and timelines. Receive and review all Subcontractor Reports in the agreed format and timelines. Receive and review all Attendance / Workface reports. Update daily timesheet online. Evaluate, update and escalate risk register on an ongoing basis.  

Project Completion

Compile final handover certificates and ensure project deliverables are completed. Compile final completion of Application for Payment’s and final invoicing and submit to relevant stakeholders. Activate the agreed warranty process and procedures. Ensure sign off of Final Account with customer, subcontractor and vendors. Obtain any performance bonds and Bank guarantees. Return any performance bonds to subcontractors. Receive and ensure final payment of retention funds from customers and contractors. Obtain 'Contract Completion' agreement from Customer. Conduct Project Team meeting to review and record 'lessons learnt. Create and implement a resource demobilisation plan. Implement any appropriate Reward and Recognition awards (To be implemented). Facilitate the 'Projects to Service' Handover meeting. Ensure archiving of all documentation in the approved manner. Facilitate handover meeting and ensure submission of all relevant documentation. Oversee and ensure successful project demobilisation. Ensure reallocation and disposal of all site 'Surplus Materials' in the approved manner. Hold meeting with Subcontractor/s to review and record 'lessons learnt' and give feedback. Ensure 'signed off' copy of final Defects / Snags / Punch list is obtained and filed.

Desired Experience & Qualification Qualifications (essential):

Matric Certificate Diploma in Project Management

 

Qualifications (desirable):

Relevant Technical Degree Construction Management Degree Project Management Certification Project Management Professional (PMP) Accreditation SACPCMP Accreditation

 

Experience (Years and nature of experience):

5 years Project management in a mechanical / electrical construction environment Mechanical and electrical engineering Fire industry and mining environment (surface & underground) experience

 

Skills and Knowledge (essential):

Project Management Contracts Management (FIDIC/NEC) Job Cost Estimations, Financial planning and forecasts ERP systems Computer literate (MS Office and MS Projects) Project planning software

 

Skills and Knowledge (desirable):

Fire detection, protection and suppression systems Industrial plants / mining Quality assurance methodologies

 

Other:

Valid Driver’s Licence (Code EB) Must be able to pass a mine medical examination Willing and able to travel to different sites Proficient in Afrikaans and English

Package & Remuneration Salary range:

R40 000 - R50 000 per month
