Introduction PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To plan, execute, monitor and close skills development projects undertaken by Denel Technical Academy (DTA). The Project Manager will coordinate project teams, manage resources, budgets, risks, and stakeholder relationships, and ensure projects are delivered within the approved scope, timelines, budget, and quality standards. The position serves as the primary link between DTA, clients, funding authorities, Skills Development Providers, learners and other stakeholders, ensuring effective communication, compliance and achievement of contractual objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities Project Planning and Management:
Define each project’s purpose, scope, objectives, deliverables and success criteria; Develop and maintain comprehensive project implementation plans; Establish project timelines, milestones, dependencies and resource requirements; Coordinate project initiation, execution, monitoring, control and closure; Team and Stakeholder Information: Roles, responsibilities and contact details; Risk Management Plan: Identified potential risks and mitigation strategies; Allocate responsibilities and clarify the roles of project team members and stakeholders (i.e. Human, Financial, Supply Chain etc); Tools and Technology: Software and platforms for project management and communication; Communication plan: How and when information will be shared with stakeholders; Quality Requirement: Standards and criteria to meet project deliverables; and Legal and Compliance Guideline: Relevant regulations and standards pertinent to the project.
Operational Excellence:
Clear goals and objectives: Well-defined project goals aligned with broader business strategies to guide efficient execution; Standardised processes: Establish and document project management methodologies and best practices for consistent delivery; Resource Management: Optimal allocation and utilisation of human, financial and material resources; Effective Communication: Transparent and timely information flow within teams and with stakeholders; Training and Development: Ongoing skill building and knowledge sharing for project teams; Continuous Improvement Framework: Systems for identifying improvement opportunities such as lessons learned; Successful completion of audits, monitoring visits and project close-out processes.
Financial Management:
Provide input and manage budgets and Manage and report on the various discretionary grants to the relevant authorities.
Risk and Compliance:
Conducting risk assessment early and throughout the project lifecycle; Developing a risk management plan that outlines how risk will be handled; Monitoring and reviewing risks regularly; Communicating risk to stakeholders; and Implementing risk mitigation, contingency plans or avoidance strategies.
Transformation & Human Capital Management:
Participate in the performance management process; Participate in staff meetings as and when required to discuss operational performance and business issues; Lives the Denel Values and demonstrates behaviour that is consistent with the culture of Denel
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum NQF Level 6 (i.e., National Diploma) in Project Management; A recognised project management certification will be advantageous; At least five years’ relevant project-management experience; At least three years’ experience managing skills development, education, training, learnership, apprenticeship or workplace-based learning projects; Demonstrated experience managing externally funded projects, grants, budgets and stakeholder reporting; Experience working with funding authorities, SETAs, the NSF, DHET, QCTO or similar institutions will be advantageous; Experience managing Skills Development Providers (SDPs), subcontractors or multidisciplinary project teams will be advantageous; Experience working in a public entity or PFMA-regulated environment will be advantageous.
