Introduction To design, implement engineering standards and procedures, and responsible for overall management of the engineering functions within the Impala operations. The role encompasses the improvement of efficiencies and sustainability of processes whilst minimising operational and business risks and reducing waste.
Duties & Responsibilities
Addresses the assessment and governance of operational reliability that could have an impact on the production of the operations. The Engineering Manager will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of highly skilled engineering staff while ensuring that objectives and goals are met. Manages risk to the achievement of an organisation’s strategic objectives in areas of environmental, health and safety, asset capability, quality and production. Oversees engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect the operations. Controls critical spare availability and usage through utilisation and application governance. Leads and coordinates various engineering functions and operations including quality assurance, testing, production, and research and development of new and existing product lines. Serves as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organising collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets. Manages and oversees the asset register of the operations. Guides efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems. Oversees the Risk Management Plan incorporating the anticipation of reliability-related, and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact operations. Prioritises and manages improvement and optimisation initiatives whilst ensuring engineering best practices are harnessed. Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, whilst reducing waste. Manages overall infrastructure including roads, power, and water usage. Optimises business performance by enhancing the alignment between business processes and Costing and Project systems, in conjunction with ensuring statutory engineering compliance. Ensures well structured, skilled, and responsive engineering resources. Integrates business supportive engineering developments solutions. Researches and develops innovative and new knowledge development
Desired Experience & Qualification
Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent Engineering Degree or NQF 7 Equivalent Government Certificate of Competency Management/Leadership Development Programme (MMDP/SMDP) Registered with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) Project Management Qualification 5-7 years operational experience, which 2 years are inclusive of a recognised junior engineering program training 3-5 years managerial experience within the Hard Rock Mining environment 3-5 years project management experience Electrical and Mechanical engineering theory General management methodologies and principles Legal knowledge related to the mining industry MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Project Management skills (understanding project environment, process flow, etc.) Strategic leadership
