Job Description: Payroll Advisor - Fixed term contract Purpose of the Role The Payroll Advisor will play a key role in supporting the Payroll Lead with all South African statutory payroll obligations. This includes ensuring accurate payroll processing, compliance with legislative requirements, and timely submission of statutory returns. The role will also provide hands-on assistance with resolving system issues, statutory reconciliations, and any operational needs required by the Payroll Lead. Key Responsibilities: Support the Payroll Lead with all statutory compliance activities, including: AA88s UIF documentation and submissions EMP201 and EMP501 preparation, balancing, and submissions COID/Workmen's Compensation submissions and annual returns Tax Directives Assist with the preparation, validation, and submission of SARS statutory returns, including IRP5/IT3(a) certificates and E@syFile uploads. Resolve payroll system errors and statutory discrepancies to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing. Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Systems teams to address issues impacting statutory calculations or submissions. Perform monthly statutory reconciliations, including PAYE, UIF, SDL, and ETI. Support mid-year and year-end SARS submissions, ensuring deadlines are met and data is accurate. Maintain accurate employee tax and statutory records, ensuring correct application of tax directives, fringe benefits, and legislative changes. Assist with internal and external audits by preparing required payroll documentation and statutory evidence. Monitor legislative updates and ensure payroll processes remain compliant with South African tax and labour laws. Provide guidance and support to employees and internal stakeholders regarding statutory payroll queries. Offer any additional operational or compliance support required by the Payroll Lead to ensure smooth payroll delivery. Professional Know-How:- Minimum Qualification: Matric (Grade 12) required Relevant tertiary qualification in Payroll, HR, Finance, or related field preferred. Minimum Experience: Minimum 3-5 years' experience in South African payroll processing with strong statutory compliance exposure. Solid understanding of SARS requirements, EMP201/EMP501 submissions, ETI, UIF, SDL, and BCEA. Experience using payroll systems (e.g. SAP, Workday, or similar). Strong working knowledge of SARS eFiling and E@syFile. Experience resolving payroll system errors and statutory discrepancies. Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Excellent understanding of South African payroll legislation. Analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in statutory reconciliation. Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills. Proactive, organised, and able to work independently. Contract Duration Fixed-Term Contract: [3 - 6 Months] Possibility of extension based on business needs and performance.
