Introduction The Mechanical Project Supervisor will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination, execution, and supervision of Tank maintenance, repair, and pipeline painting in the terminal. A primary and critical responsibility will be the end-to-end supervision of aboveground storage Tank inspection and maintenance programs
Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Preparation: Manage a detailed work scopes, safety plans and schedules for tank out of service inspections, repairs, and alterations.
Contractor Management:
Oversee and manage third-party API 653 inspectors, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) contractors, welding contractors, and scaffolding teams. Ensure all contractor activities adhere to Company safety standards, quality specifications, and contractual agreements.
Execution Oversight:
Supervise all phases of tank inspection projects, including tank isolation, de-commissioning, sludge removal, cleaning, inspection access preparation (scaffolding/ventilation), NDT execution (MFL & UT), repair work (patch plates, shell repairs, roof repairs, foundation work), and final re-commissioning.
Quality Assurance (QA/QC):
Verify that all repairs and alterations strictly comply with API 653, API 650 (as applicable), company standards, and local regulatory requirements. Maintain comprehensive documentation of all quality checks and hold points.
Safety Compliance:
Ensure strict adherence to Companies safety fundamentals & protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), confined space entry permits, hot work permits, and fire prevention measures during all phases of tank work.
General Mechanical Project Management:
Budget Control:
Monitor project expenditures against the approved budget and report any variances.
Resource Coordination:
Coordinate the allocation of internal resources (technicians, equipment) and external resources (contractors, specialized tools) to ensure project timelines are met.
Commissioning and Handover:
Oversee the successful commissioning of repaired and ensure proper documentation is handed over for operational readiness.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all project activities, including daily progress reports, safety meetings, inspection certificates, and sign-offs. Prepare final project close-out reports.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Grade 12 Education: Mechanical N3 Certificate or N6 in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field. Relevant trade qualifications combined with experience working in a storage or refinery. Experience: Minimum of 3 -5 years of supervisory experience in mechanical maintenance or project management, with significant exposure to the petrochemical, oil & gas, or bulk liquid storage industry. Technical Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of storage tank inspection & maintenance. Skills: Strong leadership, communication, planning, and organizational skills.
