Junior Network Engineer (12 Months Fixed Term Contract)

Introduction PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Ensuring the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services. Planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization

Participating in the installations, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. Analysing and resolving network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user and colleagues training where required, Install\Support\Maintain of Wifi LAN’s

Duties & Responsibilities Network Infrastructure:

Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, firewalls, Intrusion Pretension systems and other hardware Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes Oversee installation, configuration and maintenance of the network infrastructure Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, Tablets, telephony equipment and other network appliances Participate in systems backups and recovery. Provide guidance to junior members of the team. Participate in systems backups and recovery. Provide guidance to junior members of the team. Collaborate with the Service Desk, Desktop Support and Applications teams to ensure efficient operation of the network infrastructure. Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry. Ensure appropriate SLA’s are in place with third parties to meet Business Continuity objectives. Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades Collaborate with Head of IT and ICT team leaders to assess near and long-term network capacity needs. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records. Design and implement audio and video conferencing solutions. Respond timeously to incoming Service Requests from Service Desk

 

Network Monitoring and Reports:

Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed Perform network asset management including keeping inventory of all network equipment from acquisition to disposal Monitor and test network performance and provide network statistics and reports

 

Network Security:

Participate in managing all network security solutions Perform server and security audits Ensure adequate physical security of the network equipment and its facilities Interact and negotiate with vendors and contractors to secure network products and services

 

Server Network:

Manage servers including database, email print and backup servers and its associated operating systems and software

 

Transformation & Human Capital Management:

Participate in the performance management process Participate in staff meetings as and when required to discuss operational performance and business issues Lives the Denel Values and demonstrates behaviour that is consistent with the culture of Denel

Desired Experience & Qualification

Grade 12 N+ (Introduction to Networks) CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associates) Drivers License 3 Years Experience and success with LAN, VLAN, VNP, WLAN and WAN design and implementation 3 Years Experience with capacity planning, network security principles and general network management best practices

Ideal:

CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) Optional NQF Level 5 Diploma

 

Knowledge Requirements:

Knowledge of Cisco products, and networking products in general. Hands on technical knowledge of network, PC and Tablet operating systems Excellent technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols and internal standards Excellent knowledge of telephone systems Knowledge in Wifi Networks installing and troubleshooting Excellent knowledge of hardware troubleshooting Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
