Introduction A leading organisation is seeking an experienced Intermediate Azure DevOps Engineer to join its technology team on a contract basis from July 2026 to March 2027. This hybrid role based in Cape Town offers the opportunity to work closely with development, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to design, implement, automate, and maintain Azure cloud environments and CI/CD pipelines.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, performance, and security of cloud-hosted solutions while driving automation initiatives and DevOps best practices across the business.
Duties & Responsibilities Azure Cloud Administration
Deploy, configure, and manage Azure cloud environments. Monitor, maintain, and optimise Azure infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance. Implement and manage Azure networking solutions, including Virtual Networks, Network Security Groups (NSGs), Application Gateways, and VPNs. Support and maintain Azure Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings.
DevOps & CI/CD
Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps. Automate software deployment processes across development, testing, and production environments. Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, ARM Templates, or Bicep. Manage source code repositories and branching strategies using Git.
Automation & Scripting
Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, or Python. Identify opportunities to automate operational and deployment activities. Improve deployment efficiency while reducing manual intervention.
Monitoring & Support
Monitor cloud infrastructure and applications using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights. Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, and application-related issues. Participate in incident management and root cause analysis activities.
Security & Compliance
Implement Azure security best practices, including Identity and Access Management (IAM). Manage Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) services and role-based access controls. Support vulnerability remediation initiatives and compliance requirements. Ensure secure deployment and configuration of cloud resources.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Collaborate with software developers, architects, and infrastructure teams. Contribute to DevOps standards, processes, and best practices. Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning sessions, and technical reviews. Stay up to date with emerging Azure and DevOps technologies and industry trends.
Desired Experience & Qualification Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications will be highly advantageous.
Experience
3–5 years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Systems Administration. Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience working with Microsoft Azure. Proven experience designing and maintaining Azure DevOps pipelines and CI/CD processes. Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, ARM Templates, or Bicep. Experience working within Agile development environments.
