In-House Legal Counsel (6-Month Contract)

Introduction Our client, a corporate office within the mining sector, based in Centurion is seeking a Temporary In-House Legal Counsel to provide legal support during a maternity leave period.

The successful candidate will provide legal guidance on commercial, corporate governance, and mining-related regulatory matters while supporting the broader business and executive teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of commercial, corporate, and mining-related matters. Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, including mining legislation. Support corporate governance activities, including board and shareholder matters, through office of Group Company Secretary. Manage disputes and litigation processes, coordinating with external counsel where necessary. Advise on mining law compliance, licensing, and regulatory requirements. Contribute to risk management strategies and support business decision-making.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications LLB degree, admitted attorney.

 

Experience At least three years post-admission experience as an in-house legal counsel or commercial lawyer; Group experience would be advantageous; and Exposure to the mining sector and familiarity with relevant legislation and regulatory framework preferred.

 

Key Skills Contract Management: Extensive expertise in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts; Corporate Governance: Strong Knowledge of governance frameworks, board processes and regulatory compliance; Litigations Awareness: solid understanding of litigation processes, including instructing & managing external counsel; Mining Law Knowledge: Knowledge of mining legislation, licensing requirements, environmental and safety regulations and compliance obligations within the sector; Analytical Ability: skilled in identifying legal risks and providing pragmatic business-oriented solutions; Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels; and Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
