HVAC Technician - Qualified and Experienced Candidates Only

Introduction An established HVAC services provider is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced HVAC Technician to join its technical team in Cape Town.

This is a hands-on position requiring proven capability in the installation, maintenance, fault-finding and repair of commercial and residential HVAC systems. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, diagnosing technical problems accurately and delivering high-quality workmanship in client-facing environments.

Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

HVAC Installation

Install split DX systems, including mid-wall, cassette, under-ceiling and ducted units Install console, rooftop, floor-standing and window-type DX units Install refrigeration piping, PEX piping and condensate and PVC drainage systems Install air-conditioning and ventilation ducting Install fans, diffusers, grilles and associated components Install and commission VRV/VRF systems Ensure installations comply with technical specifications, safety requirements and accepted industry standards

Pumps and Water Systems

Work on chilled-water, condenser-water and condensate pumps Maintain and repair chilled-water systems incorporating two-way and three-way valves Maintain condenser-water systems and cooling towers Diagnose water-flow, pressure and temperature-related faults

Maintenance, Repairs and Fault-Finding

Service, maintain and repair chillers, DX units, pumps and ventilation systems Diagnose and repair electrical and control-circuit faults Conduct fault-finding and repairs on VRV/VRF systems Identify equipment defects and recommend appropriate corrective action Complete repairs efficiently while minimising system downtime

Equipment and Components

The successful candidate must be experienced in working with:

Compressors and expansion valves Evaporator and condenser coils Fans, motors and pumps Control valves and solenoid valves Filters, belts and bearings Thermostats, sensors and control devices Electrical components, control panels and switchgear

Preventative Maintenance

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance Clean and lubricate equipment and components Check refrigerant pressures, electrical current and operating temperatures Inspect belts, bearings, filters, motors, fans and electrical connections Identify developing faults before equipment failure occurs Complete maintenance records and technical service reports

Additional Responsibilities

Liaise professionally with clients and provide clear technical feedback Relocate air-conditioning units using the correct pump-down procedures Operate Building Management Systems Monitor and adjust system set points Maintain safe working practices at all times Ensure tools, equipment and work areas are properly maintained

Desired Experience & Qualification Applicants must have:

A recognised HVAC, air-conditioning or refrigeration qualification Proven practical experience as an HVAC Technician Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability Working knowledge of electrical and HVAC control circuits Experience with both DX and chilled-water systems Practical experience working with VRV/VRF systems The ability to interpret technical drawings and equipment specifications A professional approach to client service The ability to work independently and as part of a technical team A valid driver’s licence
