Reporting into Tax Director
Our client is looking for support with a temporary contract placement to cover a maternity leave for one of their team members. .
Duties & Responsibilities
CFC and SA tax advisory Being the contact for businesses and the Group Tax team on day-to-day controlled foreign company (CFC) and SA tax advice regarding enquiries from businesses throughout the Group on transactions – transactions vary from simplistic to complex restructuring and M&A; Partnering with the group’s tax and finance teams, mergers and acquisitions teams and legal teams to ensure SA tax implications / consequences are appropriately identified, managed and implemented; Building strong relationships with the group’s tax and finance community and becoming a trusted business partner; and Engaging with external advisors where input is required (support is also available from advisors). CFC Annual compliance Project management of the group’s annual controlled foreign company (CFC) compliance process – analyses and calculations are outsourced, so the overall requirements are: Co-ordinating and managing the information gathering process with businesses; Managing the different service providers and ensure roles and responsibilities are fulfilled; Ensuring the project plan and related deadlines are met; and Reviewing the CFC imputation and tax return and performing relevant analytics, checks and tests and ensuring the filing deadline is met. AI / Automation Become comfortable with existing tools and manage current processes; Identify opportunities to leverage AI / automation to improve processes; Achieve targeted objectives on this front. Assisting with external audit queries and requests. Willingness to get involved in further projects / provision of tax advice as time allows.
Desired Experience & Qualification Experience
Strong South African and international tax technical knowledge; Solid, relevant practical South African and international tax experience, in particular, relating to corporate roll-over relief provisions, CFC legislation, participation exemption, establishing base cost, capital loss limitation rules; Solid communication skills (verbal and written) that can bring complex messages across in a simple and understandable manner; Independent worker that is highly organised and focused on implementing and following processes; Keen attention to detail (including critical self-review of all deliverables), highly diligent and can work highly accurately and efficiently; Strong sense of urgency, able to prioritise and finalise tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines; Strong analytical skills; and Keenness to learn, self-study, solve complex problems and embrace AI.
Qualifications
Postgraduate degree in finance or taxation 3-4 years work experience with a minimum of 2 years in tax advisory Preferred but not required: Master’s degree or equivalent in taxation Preferred but not required : CA (SA) or LLB / LLM
