Introduction Our client, a leading mining business, is currently seeking to engage with an Estimator to join their growing team to be based in Kathu, Northern Cape. This will be a 12 month contract with potential to be renewed for up to 3 years.
The Estimator is accountable for ensuring the class and accuracy of cost estimates for major and mega projects.
He / she is responsible to ensure:
The development of an integrated estimating plan. The development and updating of the estimate aligned to the required class of estimate, all phases of a project supported by a detailed basis of estimate and assessing the estimate maturity in alignment to the estimating standard. The updating of the estimating database (including benchmarking). To ensure that a Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) is conducted to model the project risk profile and calculate the contingency and accuracy ranges (P10 & P90).
Duties & Responsibilities Development of integrated cost estimating plans:
Ensuring alignment with the Group Estimating Standards for each phase (definition of what is required from a basis of estimate perspective). Ensuring alignment with other key elements / parties of the project e.g. Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Schedule, Project Economics.
Development and updating of the cost estimate and basis of estimate:
Confirmation of the estimating structure, aligned to the WBS. Development of a basis of estimate. Assessing and validating components of the estimate prepared by 3rd parties. Application of Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA). Benchmarking of key elements of the cost estimate. Production and QA of the Cashflow that will be incorporated into the Project Economic model.
To support and work with the Project/ Study Manager and Project Economist during the study phases by providing cost data / benchmarking to support decision making.
Provide support to cost engineer (if required). Support any material change requests – preparing new cost estimates. Feed real cost data (as-built data) back into estimating database.
Interfaces with: Procurement Manager, Controls Manager, Project Team Management, Suppliers, Contractors, EPCM Contractors and Consultants
Desired Experience & Qualification
University degree/diploma: In Cost Estimating, Quantity Surveying or Economics. Experience in mining and related operations environment. Technical areas - Geology, Mining, Metallurgy, Engineering. 10 to 15 years’ experience in the following:
Construction / Engineering Project Management environment. Cost estimating. General management experience.
Valid driver’s license and own vehicle Demonstrate proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Willing to relocate to Kathu, if not in the province
