Duties & Responsibilities The Contracts Engineer manages the administration, evaluation, and execution of prime
contracts, subcontracts, and change-orders.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Administration & Compliance
• FAR Compliance: Administer contracts in strict compliance with the Federal
Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Department of State Acquisition Regulation
(DOSAR).
• Local Regulations: Align contract execution with South African frameworks,
including the Joint Building Contracts Committee (JBCC) or FIDIC standards
where applicable.
• Permitting & Licensing: Oversee the legal documentation for local Durban
municipal approvals, zoning, and environmental regulations.
Financial & Change Control
• Variations & Claims: Evaluate, negotiate, and process change orders, claims,
and variations submitted by subcontractors.
• Cost Control: Review monthly progress billings, quantitative measurements,
and payment certificates against physical progress.
• Risk Mitigation: Identify contractual risks early and draft formal correspondence
to defend the company against non-meritorious claims.
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction
Management, or a related field.
• Certification: registration with the South African Council for the Quantity
Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is highly advantageous.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in Construction field
• International Exposure: Proven experience working on international
construction projects, ideally within Sub-Saharan Africa or South Africa
specifically.
• Value: Experience handling complex infrastructure or high-security building
projects valued above $50M.
• Legal & Contractual Mastery: Deep understanding of FAR, DOSAR, and
standard international forms of contract (FIDIC/JBCC).
