Introduction About the Role
Our client is an established electrical EPCM contractor operating primarily in Central and Northern Africa. The organisation specialises in the engineering and design of medium- to high-voltage substations, overhead lines, power factor correction, harmonic filtration, and emergency generation solutions.
We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Construction Manager with a self-motivated approach. A strong work ethic, integrity, and the ability to operate effectively in demanding mining environments are essential.
This is a contract-based opportunity for an Independent Contractor (IC).
Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all on-site construction, installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of medium-voltage electrical equipment and associated civil works (including foundations and cable trenches). Monitor and maintain construction schedules aligned with the overall project timeline; provide weekly progress reports and attend coordination meetings. Manage subcontractors and direct labour, including mobilisation, daily coordination, toolbox talks, and performance tracking. Enforce strict HSE standards, with emphasis on mining regulations and client requirements. Oversee QA/QC processes, including drawing reviews, inspections, punch list management, documentation, and compliance with international and client standards. Maintain cost control, project scheduling, and resource allocation oversight. Act as primary site interface with the client, EPCM engineering team, vendors, and local labour. Coordinate logistics, material deliveries, and site facilities. Support mechanical completion, testing, energisation, handover, and demobilisation processes.
Direct involvement in construction and installation of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, including:
Substations Switchgear Transformers Overhead lines Cabling and busbars Experience in mining power infrastructure Experience working under mining companies or EPCM contracts on multidisciplinary projects
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of high-voltage installation methods, testing, and commissioning Construction planning and project control experience Solid understanding of QA/QC systems and engineering document control Knowledge of international standards applicable to power projects High-voltage safety systems, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures Working knowledge of civil works associated with electrical installations (foundations, cable routing, earth grids) Proficiency in MS Office Positive, solutions-driven attitude Willingness to assist beyond defined scope when required Additional Requirements
Desired Experience & Qualification Minimum Requirements/Qualifications;
B.Eng or National Diploma in Electrical / Civil / Construction Engineering
Experience
Minimum 5 years’ relevant industry experience Excellent communication skills (fluent in English required; additional languages advantageous) Site-based experience in remote, logistically complex environments Experience working in the DRC will be a significant advantage Proven ability to resolve field issues and adapt designs to site-specific conditions Project-Specific Experience Must be able to work within a mining environment Comfortable working on an 8/2 rotation schedule
