Duties & Responsibilities Editorial Leadership
Leading all editorial content relevant to Durban, making sure it is engaging, high quality, and on-brand. Build and update an editorial calendar about what is best, most important, and most exciting in Durban. Manage, mentor and assign work to a team of freelance writers and contributors. Edit and proofread articles, for clarity, according to fact, voice, and consistent high editorial standards.
Content Strategy & Production
Create content strategies that reflect the most recent trends, events and venues that would be appreciated by our target audience. Work in close collaboration with the editorial and promotions teams to guarantee that content is configured for both SEO and audience engagement. Write, commission, and edit an array of content types including all-inclusive travel guides, restaurants and venue write-ups, interviews, and lifestyle features.
City Expertise
Use your in-depth, close knowledge of a local Durban culture, food, and lifestyle to put together content that is authentic and engaging. Have a finger on the pulse of the contemporary trends, events, and food & drink happenings so that content is fresh and relevant.
Collaborating
Alongside the Content Director for South Africa, closely execute the strategy while aligning on broader editorial objectives and vision. Participate in creative brainstorming for future content ideas. Cross-department collaboration with marketing, social media, and others to amplify content and drive audience growth.
Desired Experience & Qualification A diploma or degree in Journalism or a related field.
Experience & Skills
At least 5 years of editorial experience in travel, lifestyle, or food journalism, with a strong portfolio. Proven ability to manage writers and freelancers, ensuring high-quality content. In-depth personal knowledge about KZN food, culture, and lifestyle; you aren't merely acquainted; you're a true local. Excellent English skills with an engaging, detail-oriented writing style. Strong editorial judgment and experience creating content for digital audiences. Organised, deadline-driven, and collaborative team player. Creative, trend-savvy, and adaptable to remote or office work environments.
