Introduction We are looking for an experienced Cartage Team Leader Controller to lead and oversee the Durban cartage operation in Mobeni.

Duties & Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the Local, Long Distance and Third Man desks, ensuring effective planning, monitoring and shift coverage Audit route plans, vehicle allocations and dispatch times to maximise fleet utilisation and reduce empty running Ensure accurate live updates on the company’s ERP system (Last Vehicle Position, trip execution, driver registers) Oversee vehicle tracking, camera monitoring, driver communication and prompt escalation of operational/safety issues Audit driver and vehicle performance (trip counts, turnaround times, delays, kilometres and revenue) Monitor fuel consumption, idling and diesel costs against sales; investigate variances and implement corrective action Review client rates and trip costs, identify unprofitable work and recommend improvements Coordinate with the workshop on breakdowns, repairs, servicing and vehicle downtime Address driver and controller performance through coaching, clear instructions and formal escalation where required Oversee Navis bookings, import last free days, export stack closures, container movements and delivery deadlines Ensure complete trip documentation, effective handovers and accurate daily management reports
Desired Experience & Qualification
Grade 12 Relevant experience in fleet or cartage control with demonstrated leadership ability Navis experience and practical knowledge of Durban port operations Strong computer literacy and practical Microsoft Excel skills Experience using ERP, vehicle tracking, camera and fuel management systems Knowledge of transport rates, route planning, trip costing and fuel efficiency Basic knowledge of truck and trailer repairs and common mechanical faults Strong communication, problem-solving and time-management skills Ability to work under pressure, take ownership and manage multiple operational priorities Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle
